Policy sector role descriptions

Below are policy sector role descriptions developed in consultation with the sector. Each role description has been developed using the endorsed Role Description Builder and is in line with the Role Description Development Guide.

All role descriptions specify the capability levels required for the role, which have been identified from the 2013 NSW Public Sector Capability Framework. These sector role descriptions can be used across a range of workforce management activities, including recruitment, performance management, learning and development and career planning.

PSSE Band 3

Deputy Secretary Policy

General management role supporting Secretary in overall governance and operation of the agency. Critical strategic policy advisor to minister(s) and Secretary ensuring appropriateness and integrity of policy formulation and implementation.

PSSE Band 2

Executive Director Policy

Responsible for a specific significant program or portfolio of government policy provides specific expert policy advice to minister, Secretary and Deputy. Typically reporting to a Deputy Secretary.

PSSE Band 1

Director Policy

Accountable for a particular policy area or program. Typically reporting to Executive Director Policy or Deputy Secretary Policy. May also be found in delivery agencies which have direct responsibility for a specific policy area.

Director Programs

Accountable for directing implementation, integration and evaluation of policy changes and initiatives within the cluster. Typically reporting to Executive Director Policy or Deputy Secretary Policy within cluster structure
