Recent changes to the Government Sector Employment (General) Rules 2014 will affect some aspects of agency recruitment. The Government Sector Employment (General) Rules (Amendment 14-Miscellaneous) 2025 is in effect from 29 August 2025. The changes do not affect recruitment actions underway at that date. The key changes are:
- a simplified pathway to re-employ former temporary employees in certain circumstances as explained in the ‘Deciding how to fill a role’ section of the Recruitment and Selection Guide.
- requirements for an independent assessor on a selection panel are explained in the ‘How to Choose Assessors’ section of the Guide
- the requirements for comparative assessment are clarified in the ‘Consolidating results and making selection decisions’ in the Guide.
