Aboriginal Employment and Development Program

AEDP team

Join Australia's largest and most diverse employer for a unique opportunity to help shape the future of NSW.

The NSW Government employs a workforce that reflects the rich culture and diversity of Aboriginal Peoples. We are committed to growing and developing a talented and versatile Aboriginal workforce right across the sector, in a wide range of roles, and at all levels - from trainees to Secretaries and Agency Heads.

Aboriginal employment enhances our workforce diversity and so improves the services we deliver. It supports economic advancement and development of Aboriginal peoples and communities.

Element one of the NSW Working together for a better future: the NSW Public Sector Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) 2019 – 2025 is to build a talent pipeline by attracting more Aboriginal peoples to work in the NSW public sector and helping them advance their careers. It aims to:

  • attract more Aboriginal peoples to work in the NSW public sector
  • improve Aboriginal employees’ experiences, boost retention rates and help advance their careers.

The AEDP is a key action under element one which includes running Aboriginal-specific employment programs. The AEDP strives to create a talent pipeline to sustain growth in Aboriginal employment representation long after the strategy has come to term.
The AEDP is a structured employment program that offers successful applicants:

  • an 18 - month placement within a NSW government agency working across a variety of projects
  • a competitive salary on commencement at the Clerk grade 3/4 level
  • a nationally recognised Diploma of Leadership and Management qualification and tailored leadership development coaching
  • remove this until it is in place for the current cohortsOpportunities to develop professional networks across the NSW Public Sector
  • ongoing employment on successful completion of the program.

If you want choice in your career, an opportunity to grow your professional skills in a supportive learning environment and would like to be part of shaping government programs and policies to deliver better outcomes for New South Wales, then apply for the 2020 Aboriginal Employment and Development Program (AEDP).
