This year Australians will be asked in a referendum whether they agree to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to the Australian Parliament.
We have developed guidance to help NSW government agencies and employees navigate their responsibilities and participation in the referendum process.
It is important that throughout this process all employees comply with the core values in the Government Sector Employment Act 2013 and uphold their obligations in the Code of Ethics and Conduct for NSW government sector employees.
We have outlined key guiding principles to uphold during this time including:
- respectful behaviours
- cultural safety
- use of social media
- supporting the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees.
